WMLA Mission Statement
To best serve our members, the general public and the ground transportation industry at large, the Washington Metropolitan Limousine Association has dedicated itself to:
- Providing a regional forum for networking, as well as for the exchange of information and views by its members.
- Creating the safest possible environment and improving the professional image of our industry through education and training.
- Advancing the interests of the industry and its members by serving as an advocate to regulatory bodies and keeping the membership informed about pertinent regulations and legislation.
- Facilitating strategic relationships between operators, vendors and regulatory bodies.
- History
-
-
-
- -
-
-
-
- The WMLA started in 1993 as an adjunct of the DC Trucking Association (which was itself a member of the American Trucking Association) to protect its members from the onerous regulations pouring in from three jurisdictions (Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland). Though the first meeting only brought in a dozen operators, the association quickly tripled and currently includes approximately 50 members.
- -
-
-
-
- While originally serving as a means of protecting its members against hurtful legislation, the WMLA quickly evolved to include benefits like group purchasing. Today, it works directly with other forward-thinking limousine organizations and operators nationwide.
- -
-
-
-
- While the participation of limousine operators and membership climbed steadily, the limited number of trucking firms in the area eventually led to the dissolution of the DC Trucking Association in late 1997. The limousine operators decided to continue on the fight, and after writing offical bylaws, the WMLA in its current form was born.
- -
-
-
- Today, the WMLA works with law enforcement, governmental agencies and local airports to ensure its members are being treated fairly and to remain up-to-date on current events.
- -
-
-
- As a reminder of its origin the WMLA still holds its quarterly meetings at DC Trucking, 430 First Street SE, Washington DC.
